May 28, 2018: Landslide in Oromia region of Ethiopia claimed lives of at least 32 people. Ethiopia's state-affiliated broadcaster, Fana Broadcasting Corporation reported that the landslide occurred due to heavy rainfall. At least 23 people died in a landslide in the Sidama zone. Other nine people died in the Gamo Gofa zone.

Floods and Landslides triggered by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of at least 50 people in Wolaita zone of Ethiopia. Landslide in the Wolaita Zone in southern Ethiopia killed 41 people. Nine people died in flooding in Bale, an area in southeastern Ethiopia, AP reported quoting Fana Broadcasting Corporate. Flooding and landslides have washed away roads and bridges and affected tens of thousands of people in many parts of the country.

The drought relief effort in Ethiopia needs about $500 million to support programmes beyond April aimed at providing support to 10.2 million people facing severe food shortage, the U.N. World Food Programme said on Thursday. The El NiƱo weather system, on the back of 12 to 18 months of erratic or failed rains, has caused the worst drought in Ethiopia since the mid 1980s. Parts of Ethiopia are facing the worst drought in thirty years.
