March 13, 2020: Heavy rains and flooding in Egypt have claimed lives of around 20 people leading to one of the worst weather in several decades . According to the Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, "Egypt has not experienced such weather conditions for nearly 35 or 40 years." Five people died in Zaraib, south of Cairo, when their homes were swept away. Two people were electrocuted and killed in Cairo. Two people died in the southern province of Qena. A man died in southern Sohag province. Authorities have shut down Luxor International Airport. Also three seaports, the Mediterranean port of Alexandria and the Red Sea ports of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada have been closed.

Severe weather in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria has claimed lives of six people, including two children. According to Middle East News Agency (MENA), Sandstorms and flash floods hit parts of the Sinai Peninsula. Authorities have closed the port of Ain Sokhna near the southern end of the Suez Canal.

Heavy snowstorms have hit Israel, Lebanon, Turkey and Syria, causing chaos across the region.The Egyptian capital Cairo has seen record snowfall. Cairo snow 2013 is the first time in 112 years. As reported by The Weather Channel, precipitation of any kind is a rarity in Cairo. The city averages less than an inch of rain each year. Cairo snow is extremely rare. Gaza is also experiencing its first snow in a decade leading evacuation of around 500 people. Similarly, storm Alexa is the worst storm to hit Jerusalem for 60 years. Heavy snow storm in Jerusalem , Israel has displaced around 1500 people. About 1,000 stranded travellers are having shelter at the Jerusalem International Conference Centre, AFP reported.
