Flooding and landslides kill two in Santa Catarina, Brazil

January 26, 2021: Flooding and landslides have claimed lives of at least two people in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Around 70 people were evacuated from the Lagoa da Conceicao area after floodwater damaged at least 35 homes. More than 2,000 people have been affected by flooding in Guabiruba, Itajai Valley. According to the Civil Defense, 86 mm of rainfall was recorded in a 3-hour period.

Flash floods and landslides kill 24 in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

March 4, 2020: At least 23 people have been killed and more than 30 others are missing due to flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil At least 18 people died in Sao Paulo, the worst affected area. Rescuers are still searching for 25 people who have been missing in the cities of Guaruja, Santos and Sao Vicente. Landslides have washes away several ouses and displaced around 200 people in Guaruja Muniipality. The flooding and landslides in Brazil in January this year killed around 70 people. The worst natural calamities occurred in the states of Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro.

Flooding and landslides in Minas Gerais, Brazil kill 30

January 26, 2020: Flooding and landslides in southeast Brazil have claimed lives of at least 30 people. Around 2,600 people have been evacuated from their houses in Minas Gerais state. Belo Horizonte Civil Defence said that teams attended over 470 incidents of landslides and flooding across the region on 24 January, 2020. The Brazilian weather service Inmet said that in the past two days, the regional capital Belo Horizonte had seen the most intense rainfall recorded in more than 100 years.  More rain is expected in Minas Gerais as well as other parts of Brazil, including Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Tornado kills 2 in latest Brazil natural disasters

A tornado in Xanxere city in Santa Catarina state of Brazil has claimed lives of two people and injured 120 others. At least 120 have been taken to hospitals, including 15 who are seriously injured, Associated Press has mentioned quoting Luciano Peri, Santa Catarina's civil defense director, as saying.

AMAZING VIDEO: Massive sinkhole in Brazil swallows passenger bus

Heavy rainfall and flooding have formed massive sinkholes in roads in Brazil. Sinkhole disaster in the state of Para near the cities of Itaituba and Ruropolis has swallowed a bus. After the bus was evacuated, it fell into a sinkhole and was pulled down by the high flood water rushing beneath the road, The Washington Post reported.

Landslide in Natal, the Brazilian World Cup host city has destroyed 25 houses. Around 50 hours of near non-stop rain in Natal has dumped a month’s worth of precipitation, The Sky News reported. A flood alert has been declared before the world cup matches. Dozens of people have been evacuated in the Mae Luiza neighbourhood. No one has been injured in Natal landslide. Flooding in Sao Paolo, Brazil claims 10 lives, state of calamity declared

A state of calamity has been declared after floods and mudslides claimed lives of at least ten people and left 10 others missing in southeast Brazil. According to the Brazil’s Civil Defence Department, five hours of heavy rainfall through the night, Sunday to Monday in Itaoca, Sao Paolo displaced more than 300 people. Espirito Santo declares emergency after flood claims 20, leaves 40,000 homeless in SE Brazil

Flooding in Brazil has claimed lives of at least 20 people and left around 40,000 people homeless, Xinhua reported. Six people died in Espirito Santo and 14 in Minas Gerais. A state of emergency has been declared in Espirito Santo in more than half of its states. More than 40,000 people have been left homeless in Espirito Santo alone due to severe flooding. Storm has damaged more than 6,000 homes. Several roads have been blocked due to mudslides and bridges have been washed away by flood waters. The federal government has already dispatched a helicopter and army troops with disaster relief materials and rescue efforts. Flooding in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil kills 3

Flooding in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has claimed lives of at least three people and displaced more than 2,000 people this week. Baixada Fluminense located between the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains of Rio de Janeiro is believed to be worst affected by recent floods. According to local medias, Baixada Fluminense flood has damaged more than 400 houses. Mayor Eduardo Paes has urged people to stay indoors and avoid the streets. Flooding in Brazil's drought-stricken Bahia state kills 11

Recent floods in Northeastern Brazil have claimed lives of at least 11 people and left six others missing, Bahia's Civil Defense emergency response agency said. Heavy rainfall caused flooding in Lajedinho which destroyed some 70 houses and displaced around 200 people. Displaced people are taking shelter in schools and a local gym. Emergency response personnel have been searching the flooded buildings for survivors. Note that Brazil's northeast is facing worst drought in a century. Tornado in Brazil kills 2, injures 64

Tornado in Taquarituba city of Brazil has claimed lives of two people and injured sixty four others. Tornado broke out on Sunday in Brazil city of Taquarituba, 200 miles south of the capital Sao Paulo. Tornado in Brazil overturned  a vehicle, killing the driver and injuring others. Other death occurred in a gym. Tornado also cut electricity and telephone services which are yet to be restored, the EFE news agency reported. Mudslide in Petropolis, Brazil kills 31

Mudslide in Petropolis, Brazil has killed 24 people and injured 18 others. Death toll from landslide in Petropolis is still expected to rise. Update 2013/03/21 -Now death toll from the landslide has risen to 31. More bodies were found in eastern Brazil. -Heavy rainfall and landslide caused damage of US$60 million. Update 2013/03/20 Death toll from landslide in Petropolis has risen to 24. Landslide injured 18 others. Mudslide caused by heavy rains have killed 16 people in Petropolis, a Brazilian town in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Disaster area is located 68 kilometers north of Rio de Janeiro. Mudslide in Petropolis has injured 20 others and displaced 560 people. Petropolis is currently in a state of maximum alert. Death toll is still expected to rise. Around 350 emergency workers are working in rescue operations. Three days of mourning is announced in Petropolis and all classes in municipal schools are suspended. Storm in Sao Paulo has killed two people. Landslides, flooding also hit Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil. Heavy storm in Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil caused flooding and landslide which killed two people. Flood water swept away 14-year-old girl and a 32-year-old man in Rua Vergueiro. The man died in an attempt of rescuing the girl.
