October 31, 2019: Magnitude 4.3 earthquake tremor has been felt in Durban today. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 10 km depth with epicenter located 44 km NW of Port Shepstone, South Africa. The earthquake tremor was well felt by the people of Port Shepstone, Margate, Kokstad, Scottsburgh, Umkomaas, Epumalanga, Pietermaritzburg and Durban KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

Small earthquake recorded in New York today

October 29, 2019: A small earthquake of magnitude 1.3 has been recorded in New York, the United States Geological Survey reported. According to the USGS, the earthquake occurred at 08:09 pm. The epicenter was located at 4 km depth. The earthquake's epicenter was located about 1.5 km E of Mamaroneck, New York, United States . No damage is expected from this earthquake. Flooding in Saudi Arabia kills 10, injures 11

October 28, 2019: Flooding in northeastern parts of Saudi Arabia has claimed lives of seven people and injured 11 others. Heavy rainfall and storm affected the areas of Harf Al-Batin, Al-Khafaji and Al-Qur’a Al-Alia. According to the Saudi Defence Department, at least 16 people trapped by the floods have been rescued and taken to safe places. Tropical Storm Pablo

October 27, 2019: Tropical Storm Pablo is expected to pass near or over the eastern islands today, The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. Tropical storm Pablo is located about 55 miles south-southwest of Santa Maria Island in the Azores, moving northeast at 25 mph. There are no coastal watches or warnings are in effect for Tropical Storm Pablo. "Pablo poses no threat to the United States or Atlantic Canada, but it will bring some rain and gusty winds to the Azores over the weekend,"  AccuWeather reported. Tropical Storm Olga causes damages, cancels flights

Update October 27, 2019 at 03:45 am UTC Tropical Storm Olga lost steam in the Gulf of Mexico and has been downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone early Saturday morning. The hurricane center is no longer monitoring the storm.  Meanwhile far out over the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Pablo has formed late Friday afternoon. October 26, 2019: Tropical Storm Olga has formed in the Gulf of Mexico bringing floods and flights cancellations. Dozens of flights were canceled or delayed at New Orleans’ main airport.  Several trees have been downed. The fallen tree caused significant damage to Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton’s home, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported . According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC), coastal flooding is possible across portions of the northern Gulf coast. A wind advisory remained in force for eastern Mississippi. October 26, 2019: Floods and mudslides caused by heavy rainfall have claimed lives of at least 10 people in Japan. Nine people died in Chiba and one dies in Fukushima. Cyclonic Storm Kyarr prompts RED ALERT in Goa

October 25, 2019: The India meteorological department (IMD) has issued a red alert to Goa following the cyclonic storm Kyarr. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, light to heavy rainfall will occur over coastal districts of Karnataka, Goa and South Konkan during the next 24 hours. Cyclone Kyarr would result into gale winds, reaching the speed to 85 kmph and by Saturday it wouldbecome 110 kmph, the IMD official said. A deep depression in the Arabian Sea intensified into cyclonic storm Kyarr today.  Following the red alert, the Goa University has cancelled all examinations which were scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday. MALAYSIA: Jalan Duta Flash Flood causes damages

October 22, 2019: Flash floods caused by continuous rainfall hit several major roads in Kuala Lumpur affecting roads at Jalan Duta, bringing damages in the area. Flash flood damaged the wall in Kampung Dato Keramat and a tree thrashed a car at Jalan U-Thant. "Three vehicles were caught in the flash flood at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim," Malaysiakini reported quoting Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Integrated Transport Information System (ITIS). Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that there is no victim reported. Yesterday, the Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry had issued flood warning for the low lying areas. MyShake earthquake app to send earthquake early warning in California

October 18, 2019: With the help of MyShake app , all Californians will be able to receive warnings before the major earthquakes. Ground motion sensors from across the state will be used to detect earthquakes and the notifications will be sent out to give Californians a second to tens of seconds earlier to take precautions. The MyShake app is now available for download to iOS and Android devices which allows earthquake warning messages to reach Californians statewide. Earthquake early warning works because communications networks can receive and send messages faster than seismic waves travel. Russia flooding: Dam collapse kills 15

October 19, 2019: At least 15 people have died and 13 others have been missing after a dam collapse at a gold mine in Siberia. The dam, on the Seiba river in the region of Krasnoyarsk, burst after heavy rain on Saturday. Emergency workers have been searching for the missing people. According to the BBC, "People are being evacuated from a nearby village of Kuragino because of the raised water levels from the Seiba River and local flooding." Kerala Flood Cess in force for a period two years

October 17, 2019: A one percent flood Cess on goods and services has been imposed in Kerala to raise the fund required for re-construction of State after the devastating flood occurred in the State during August 2018. The Kerala flood Cess rules 2019 has been implemented from 01st August 2019 for a period of two years i.e till July 2021. The flood Cess will be used for funding the post-flood rebuilding projects. The state intends to raise about ₹600 crore from the Cess.  According to the Goods and Services Tax Department of Kerala, no separate registration required for the payment of Kerala Flood Cess. GSTIN will be treated as Registration Number for Kerala Flood Cess. Tropical Cyclone 16 likely to form in the Gulf of Mexico

October 18, 2019: Potential Tropical Cyclone 16 is likely to form in the Gulf of Mexico late Thursday or early Friday bringing heavy rainfall and coastal flooding, the National Hurricane Center said. Tropical Cyclone 16 is currently over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico. However, the tropical storm watches and warnings have been issued for parts of the Gulf Coast, The Weather Channel reported. A tropical storm warning has been issued for parts of the northern Gulf Coast from the Mississippi/Alabama border to the Ochlockonee River, Florida, and from Grand Isle, Louisiana, to the mouth of the Pearl River. Flooding in central Nigeria kills 10

October 17, 2019: At least 10 people have been died due to recent flooding in Nigeria caused by the persistent rainfall. According to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency in Nigeria's central region, the deaths have been recorded over the past two months in Nigeria. Three days ago, an 11 years old boy died after being swept away in the flood water in the Alimosho area of Lagos .  The recent disaster has destroyed around 2700 houses and affected a total of 21.223 people in 20 local government areas, Xinhua reported. October 17, 2019: The annual Great ShakeOut earthquake drill will take place Oct. 17 at 10:17 a.m. across the United States . The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region III office has urged the people to participate and learn the simple but critical safety steps to preparing for and staying safe during an earthquake.
