India: Earthquake in Himachal Pradesh today measures 3.9

Magnitude 3.8 light earthquake hit Himachal Pradesh today at 07:34 local time, India Meteorological Department reported. According to the Meteorological department, the epicenter was located in Chamba region of Himachal Pradesh. The earthquake occurred at 15 km depth.

Nepal: Storm in Kathmandu injures 7, closes international airport

Dust storm in Kathmandu valley (Manisha Adhikari/Facebook) A severe dust storm lashed Nepal including Kathmandu valley at around 4 pm Monday afternoon injuring seven people. According to Nepal Police, six people injured in Kathmandu and one other in Bhaktapur.  Two people got injured after a tree crashed them infront of Tri Chandra Campus. They are having treatment at Bir Hospital. In Swayambhu, one person got injured after the wall collapsed. Other injuries have been reported from Sitapaaila, Kadaghari, Old Baneshowr and Balkot (Bhaktapur).

Sandstorm in Jeddah today kills 2; Makkah under emergency

A state of emergency has been declared in Makkah, which is situated 90 km east of Jeddah. Jeddah was blanketed by dust with winds moving at 60 km/hour, Arab News reported. Two people died due to road accidents in the Al-Salama district of Jeddah due to poor visibility.

Tornado in Lake Charles, Louisiana damages one home

A tornado touched down on the southeast side of Lake Charles damaging one home, the National Weather Service confirmed. EF 1 tornado with winds of 100 mph damaged a roof off of the home Thursday morning,  Waco Tribune-Herald mentioned.

Australia: Waiho River bursts, floods Franz Josef area leading 186 evacuations

The Waiho River burst its banks in Australia Wednesday night flooding an area of 1 km north of Franz Josef and forced the evacuation of 186 people.  The Mueller hotel near Franz Josef has also been flooded after the Waiho River broke its banks. Earlier, a boil water notice and local state of emergency was declared on Thursday which was lifted another day.

Nepal Seismological Center records M4.1 earthquake in Taplejung

Nepal Seismological Center has recorded magnitude 4.1 light earthquake in eastern region. The epicenter was located near Lelep, Taplejung. According to the Seismological Center, it's a fresh earthquake not an aftershock of Gorkha earthquake. The earthquake occurred at 11:11 pm Thursday night.

Landslide in China's Jiangxi Province kills 3

Landslide in east China's Jiangxi Province over the past five days has claimed lives of three people. Two people died in a landslide at the entrance of a tunnel on the Daqing-Guangzhou expressway in Longnan County, another person was killed in another landslide in Ganzhou city, Xinhua News Agency reported quoting the provincial civil affairs department.

Prince Harry to work for an earthquake relief project in Nepal

Prince Harry visited patients at the burn unit of Kanti Children's Hospital in Kathmandu (Twitter/@KensingtonRoyal) Britain's Prince Harry has extended his trip for spending next six days with Team Rubicon working with the community to rebuild a school damaged by the earthquake. "The people I have met and the beauty of this country make it very hard to leave. Thankfully however, I'm not leaving just yet," Kensington Palace mentioned in a tweet.

Drought emergency in Palau; Koror receives lowest rain in 65 yrs

Palau has declared state of emergency over drought. Koror, the most populous area of Palau, has recorded the lowest rainfall in 65 years over the past four months. According to National Weather Service, the Ngerimel dam has run out of water and flow from the Ngerikill river is very low.

The Iowa annual tornado drill will take place on Thursday, March 24, 2016 this year. The Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMD), the National Weather Service (NWS) and local emergency managers have again joined together to promote severe weather awareness and family preparedness.

Virginia statewide tornado drill 2016 being held today

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service (NWS) are holding a statewide tornado drill today March 22, 2016. The Virginia statewide tornado drill will begin at 9:45 a.m. with a test tornado warning sent by the NWS to National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radios.

A statewide tornado drill is scheduled today in Indiana. The Indiana Department of Homeland Security has asked Hoosiers to plan ahead for tornado season and participate in the Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. The tornado drills will be observed both in the morning and evening. The drills will be at 10:15 a.m. and 7:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Magnitude 2.9 earthquake shakes Concord, New Hampshire today at 09:18 am, the United States Geological Survey reported. According to USGS, the epicenter was located 6 km NW of Contoocook and 19 km WNW of Concord, New Hampshire. The earthquake occurred at 3.1 miles depth.

An avalanche triggered by earthquake has claimed life of a military trooper and injured one other in frontier Kargil district of Ladakh division in Indian-controlled Kashmir. The avalanche was triggered by a mild earthquake which buried two troopers on surveillance duty Wednesday night, Xinhua News Agency reported quoting a military spokesman.

Recent natural calamities in Pakistan kill 79; injure 97 others

At least 79 people have died and 97 others have been injured in recent natural calamities in Pakistan over the past 10 days. Landslide triggered by heavy rainfall collapsed a coal mine claiming lives of seven labours and injuring 10 others in in Orakzai, Xinhua News Agency reported quoting the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). In Pakistan's northwestern tribal belt, at least 22 people have been killed and 33 others have been injured.

Biggest meteor sighting recorded in Britain; Clearly observed from London, Hampshire and Stafford

Meteor over Battersea in London (Twitter Video/ DJ Paul Gilbert) A bright meteor has been spotted over Britain at about at 03:16 GMT. Meteor was clearly observed from London, Hampshire, Stafford and the east coast of England. "A green flash was observed moving south to north for a few seconds, leaving a magnesium-white trail," BBC reported. Its colour has prompted people on Twitter to describe it as the St Patrick's Day meteor.

Nepal Seismological Center has recorded magnitude 4.0 tremor in Okhaldhunga at 10:59 am Thursday morning. According to the Seismological Center, the epicenter was located near Sanghutar Bazar around 68 km from popular Namche Bazar.

2 dead as worst flooding in 10 years hits Bandung, Indonesia

Worst flood in 10 years lashed Bandung District, West Java Province claiming lives of two people, Antara , the official news agency of the government of Indonesia said. Heavy downpour caused the overflow of the Citarum River leaving two dead and three others missing. Fatalities included a 13-year-old teenager and a mother aged 40 years old. The father and his two daughters have been missing after being swept away by the flash flood.

New eruption confirmed at Costa Rica's Rincón de la Vieja Volcano

Tornado in Good Hope, Illinois causes damage

A tornado touched down near the western Illinois town of Good Hope in McDonough County, the National Weather Service said. Storm damage has also been reported in and around Good Hope, Fox2now reported quoting dispatcher in the McDonough County sheriff’s office. The extent of damage it being collected.

Earthquake causes land cracks in Nepal, hundreds affected

Magnitude 4.5 tremor has caused land cracks in Sindhupalchowk district of Nepal. The earthquake hit Selang area of Sindhupalchowk Tuesday morning at 03:12 am.  The earthquake caused multiple cracks in Baaskharka area of Selang VDC where around 150 families have been living in temporary shelters. The earthquake lashed the area during the heavy storm. Storm has also blown away the tents of earthquake victims.  Earlier, magnitude 4.2 aftershock hit Sindhupalchowk district with epicenter located near "The Last Resort".

Massive flood in Deweyville, Texas — Sabine River breaks 130 yrs record

Massive flooding have occurred in Deweyville, Texas with Sabine river breaking the highest river level set over 130 years ago, The Weather Channel reported. Mandatory evacuations have been issued in Deweyville after a week of heavy downpour. At least 400 homes have been flooded in Newton County.

Brazil: Landslide and flooding in Sao Paulo kill 19

Flooding and landslides triggered by torrential rainfall have claimed lives of at least 19 people in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A landslide buried 11 people in Francisco de Morato city of Sao Paulo, La Prensa reported. Four people died in a mudslide in Mairipora. At least eight people have gone missing in the area.

Torrential rains, flooding in Balochistan kills 9 including four children

Torrential rainfall in Balochistan province of Pakistan has claimed lives of  at least nine people including four children this week. "Nine persons including four children and a woman died in Balochistan province that borders Iran and Afghanistan," AFP has written quoting Zahid Saleem, chief of the province's disaster management authority.

2016 Monroe, Louisiana flooding kills 1; floods thousand homes

Flooding in Monroe, Louisiana has claimed life of a 7-year-old child and flooded more than 1,000 homes. The Monroe Fire Department has received numerous calls from River Oaks. Several people have been evacuated from Parkview Apartments, Oregon Trail and the 300 Block of Nevada, The News Star reported.

Heavy rainfall leads flooding in Sharjah, Police on stand by

Heavy rainfall lashed most areas of the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday with Police on stand by for any emergency due to the bad weather in Sharjah. Rainwater flooded dozens of homes in Sharjah. Sharjah Police rescued 30 families in Kalba, Khor Fakkan and Al Madam areas, The National reported.

Dubai flood 2016: Worst flooding claimed; Hundreds accidents

The downpour caused severe flooding in the Remraam complex in Dubai, The National reported. People claim that it is “the worst flooding they’ve seen". In Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is urging motorists to avoid taking the Shaikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi near the Jebel Ali Port due to water logging, Gulf News reported.

Severe weather in Oman has claimed lives of at least three people. Two people died due to flooding rivers in Al-Muthabi and Al-Rustaq. Another person died of lightning strike in Al-Muthaibi. Torrential rain continue to lash Oman from the last three days, Gulf Digital News reported.

The partial solar eclipse was visible in areas of the Northern Territory and Western Australia on March 9, 2016. Total solar eclipse of 2016 started in the Indian Ocean and passed through Indonesia before ending in the northern Pacific Ocean. The total solar eclipse occured in more than 35% area of Indonesia. People in northern Australia and parts of South Asia observed partial eclipses.

The 2016 penumbral lunar eclipse will be visible from most parts of Asia, Australia, North America and South America. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon and blocks sunlight from directly reaching the Moon. For penumbral lunar eclipse, the Moon should be a full Moon, and the Sun, Earth and Moon must be imperfectly aligned in a straight line.

Three tornadoes ripped Cool, Tolar and Stephenville; 4 injured

Tornado damage at mobile home park in Tolar, Texas, United States (Paul Moseley/ Star Telegram) At least three tornadoes have been confirmed in Cool, Tolar and Stephenville area of Texas injuring four people and damaging several buildings. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Tolar Tuesday night. Four people were injured as tornado hit Tolar in Hood County.

Aug. 21, 2017 total solar eclipse in USA will be first in 26 yrs

During a total solar eclipse, the moon will cast its shadow upon Earth's surface where all sunlight will be blocked out.  The 2017 total solar eclipse will be the first total solar eclipse visible from the United States since 1991 (visible only from part of Hawaii) and also first total solar eclipse of 21st century of the country. The total solar eclipse 2017 will first touch the Oregon coast between Lincoln City and Newport at 10:15 a.m. PDT. It will exit Oregon at 10:27 a.m. 

2016 total solar eclipse won't be visible in Dubai, UAE

However, the mercury transit will occur at 03:51 pm and end at 06:52 pm exactly after two months; May 9, 2016. Dubai has to wait three more years to observe solar eclipse. The next partial solar eclipse in Dubai will occur on December 26, 2019. You can watch it online ( click here ) from Micronesia via the San Francisco Exploratorium and the National Science Foundation. The Slooh Community Observatory will also offer a live stream of the eclipse from the countryside of Indonesia ( click here ). Total solar eclipse of 2016 will begin in the Indian Ocean and pass through Indonesia before ending in the northern Pacific Ocean. Dubai doesn't fall in the current trajectory. This is why, 2016 total solar eclipse won't be visible in Dubai.

The partial solar eclipse in Nepal will start at 5:57 am and will end at 07:02 am. The maximum view of the partial solar eclipse will be at 6:27 am. Total solar eclipse will begin in the Indian Ocean and pass through Indonesia before ending in the northern Pacific Ocean.

942 families homeless as severe rainstorm hits Yendi, Ghana

Severe rainstorm in Yendi Municipality of Ghana has injured two children and made around 942 homeless with damage to dozens of houses and mosques. The severe rainstorm caused extensive damage to 93 households and two mosques, with the hardest hit in Guntintle and Madina, suburbs of Yendi, Modern Ghana reported.

Emergency declared as houses, roads flooded in Serbia

Heavy rain and flooding have forced the authorities to declare an emergency situation in the Cacak, Lucani and Arilje municipalities in Serbia. At least 15 people have been evacuated after River Cemernica broke its banks in Preljine near Cacak, Balkan Insight reported quoting Emergency Situations Sector chief Predrag Maric.

Fresh tremor jolts Humla, Nepal; Epicenter near Selima Tso Taal

Magnitude 4.4 light earthquake rattled Humla at 01:50 pm, Nepal Seismological Center confirmed. According to the Seismological Center, the epicenter was located near Selima Tso Taal. The epicenter is located in Himalayan region with no settlement area. No damage or injuries are expected. This is the fresh earthquake, not an aftershock of Gorkha earthquake. At least 438 aftershocks of magnitude 4 and greater have rattled Nepal since April 2015 Gorkha earthquake .

Scientists discover rare doline in south China

Scientists from China and France have discovered a rare huge doline, or sinkhole, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of South China . Scientists have discovered number of dolines in Donglan County in last nine days. Dolines found in Guangxi are normally around 250 meters deep, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Meteorological Forecasting Division of Nepal expects cloudy weather in most of the Central and Western regions of Nepal Sunday afternoon. Brief rainfall or thunderstorm has been forecast for Western, Eastern and Central regions of Nepal.

437th aftershock rattled Sindhupalchowk Sunday morning

Magnitude 4.0 light aftershock rattled Sindhupalchowk Monday morning, Nepal Seismological Center reported. This is 437th aftershock of magnitude 4 and greater recorded since 2015 Gorkha earthquake .  According to the Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred at 07:10 am Sunday morning with epicenter located near Lakuridanda.

Severe weather in Quetta, Balochistan — Flash flood warning issued

Heavy rain along with hailstorm lashed major parts of Balochistan including Quetta valley on Friday. The fisheries department has issued an advisory for fishermen along the coastal belt of Balochistan not to venture out to sea on March 5 and 6 in view of torrential rains and high winds in the province, DawnNews reported.

Severe drought condition in Swaziland prompts national emergency

Swaziland Government has declared a national emergency for the current drought situation, primarily caused by the cyclical dry weather phenomenon known as El Nino . The Prime Minister, Dr B. Sibusiso Dlamini, said that "the negative impact of the drought has led to seriously diminished water availability for crop production, human consumption and livestock sustenance" in a statement at the launch of the national emergency response, mitigation and adaptation plan and declaration of national emergency at the cabinet offices in February 2016.

Flash floods in Lubango kill 24 Angolans; 30 reported missing

Flash floods at Tchioco neighbourhood, in Lubango, southern Huila province of Angola have claimed lives of at least 24 people. According to a press release from the Civil Affairs Office to the Presidency of the Republic, 24 people died when the Capitão river bridge collapsed as a result of the rains. 

Fuego volcano shows increased explosive activity, Orange alert issued

Fuego volcano in Guatemala has entered a new eruptive phase with increasing explosive activity, prompting an orange alert indicating danger. The Fuego volcano sent ash plumes more than 2,000 meters above the crater Wednesday. Volcanic ashes have been reported from San Pedro Yepocapa and Santa Lucia Cotzumalguapa de Escuintla.

M7.8 earthquake felt in Singapore today; Epicenter in Sumatra

Magnitude 7.8 earthquake shook Singapore today at 08:50 pm, triggering panic among people. The epicenter was located Southwest of Sumatra, Indonesia and was strongly felt in Medan. According to United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter was 659 km SW of Muara Siberut, Indonesia.

Magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattles Cebu today

Magnitude 3.8 earthquake rattled Cebu today at 02:52 pm, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported. According to PHIVOLCS Earthquake Bulletin, the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 7 km. The epicenter was located 8 km SW of Carmen. Tremor was well felt by the people of Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City. No damage or aftershocks are expected.

Snowstorm in Hokkaido kills one, dozens injured

Recent snowstorm has claimed life of a person in Obihiro city in Hokkaido region of Japan.  On Tuesday, at least 19 people were injured in traffic accidents in Hokkaido caused by low visibility amid the heavy snowfall.
