Snow storm in Eastern Spain kills two female hikers

Strong winds and snow storms across Spain have claimed lives of atleast two female hikers. The two women were found late Sunday in the Tinenca de Benifassa mountain area. The two women along with a man had gone missing on Saturday. A search helicopter rescued the  man.

Cyclone Golia kills 5 in Italy, more storm warnings issued

Heavy storms brought by cyclone Golia have claimed lives of atleast five people in Italian peninsular. A 51-year-old farmer was found dead in Candinoni, Campania. Similarly, a 60-year-old jeweller and his wife were killed after their Volvo smashed while they were driving down near Caserta, also in Campania, The Local Italy reported.

Snow in eastern Idaho bury three children; 1 confirmed dead

Snow in eastern Idaho buried three children underneath, resulting in the death of a 2-year-old child Friday night. The disaster occurred in the Mack's Inn area around 5:21 p.m. when deluge of snow slid off a cabin's roof, WMUR-TV reported quoting the Fremont County Sheriff's Office. 

Windstorm in Punakha, Bhutan damages roofs of 17 houses

A windstorm has damaged roofs of atleast 17 houses in Punakha district of Bhutan Thursday morning at 10am. Windstorm has totally destroyed roofs of eight houses while others have been partially blown off, Kuensel Online has written quoting, Tshewang Phuntsho, Disaster focal person of Punakha dzongkhag.

Storm damage in Waverly, Va. (Associated Press via The Wall Street Journal) Severe storm lashed the eastern United States claiming lives of atleast eight people with worst-hit in Waverly, Virginia. Strong winds, hail and heavy rain pounded the Carolinas and Virginia on Thursday. Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe has declared a state of emergency.

Severe weather in Bangladesh kills 10, injures 25 students

Severe weather in Bangladesh has claimed lives of 10 people and injured atleast 25 students. Six people died when a trawler capsized in Dhaleshwari River in Naraynganj. In Narsinghdi, two sisters died when a wall collapsed on them during the storm. Two other people died in Moulvibazar.

Tremor felt in Kathmandu valley; Epicenter near Kirtipur

Mild tremor rattled Kathmandu valley and surrounding areas at 09:21pm Thursday night, Nepal Seismological Center reported. According to Seismological Center, the epicenter of magnitude 3.5 quake was located near Kirtipur. The recent tremor is an aftershock of Gorkha earthquake which claimed lives of more than 8500 people last year.

Massive sinkholes in Nordhausen, Germany swallow buildings

A massive 50 meter deep sinkhole swallowed up parts of two uninhabited buildings in Nordhausen city of Germany Friday night. Two sinkholes opened up, engulfing parts of two buildings of the district-owned service company in the city of Nordhausen, Russia Today (RT) reported.

Mount Bulusan volcano spews ash in Philippines: PHIVOLCS

Mt. Bulusan Volcano in Philippines spewed a grayish steam and an ash column reaching 500 meters on 22th February 2016, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.  According to Bulusan Volcano advisory issued at 06:00 pm, ashfall was reported in the towns of Juban and Irosin. Atleast two successive minor eruptions occurred at the west-northwest fissure of Bulusan Volcano summit around 5:01 pm.

Magnitude 4.5 earthquake hits Eastern Nepal; Epicenter in Sankhuwasabha

Magnitude 4.5 fresh earthquake rattled Sankhuwasabha district Tuesday morning at 08:45 am, Nepal Seismological Center reported. According to Seismological Center, the epicenter was located near Mangtewa. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km.

Earthquake in Patna, Bihar today triggers panic

Magnitude 5.5 earthquake shook Patna and other parts of Bihar today at 11:39 pm, triggering panic among people. The epicenter was located in Nepal and was well felt in western and central parts of Nepal. According to Nepal Seismological Center, the epicenter was near Panch Khuwa Deurali -9  of Gorkha district.

Ten earthquakes rattle Big Pine, CA in less than 3 hrs.

Update The Nevada Seismological Laboratory has recorded atleast 10 earthquakes in less than 3 hours. Strongest was magnitude 5.0 earthquake at 03:04 pm. Another magnitude 4.8 moderate earthquake rattled Big Pine at 03:27 pm. Atleast three earthquakes had magnitude 2.5 and greater which was well felt in Big Pine area. Others were minor earthquakes with magnitude less than 2.5. The seismic activities have increased in February this year as shown by cumulative earthquakes graph. Feb. 16, 2016: Southern California earthquake today measures 3.9

Magnitude 3.9 light earthquake rattled Southern California today (February 16, 2016) at 01:24 am Tuesday morning, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. According to USGS, the quake's epicenter was located 5km NNW of Big Bear City at a very shallow depth of 1.2 miles. The tremor was well felt in 30 km radius including in Big Bear City, Angelus Oaks, Big Bear Lake, Forest Falls, Lucerne Valley, Running Springs, Mentone, Apple Valley and surrounding areas.

Flooding in northern Portugal kills a cyclist

Source:  Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera Flooding in northern Portugal has claimed life of a cyclist after being swept away by a river. River Vouga swept away the man whose body was recovered by firefighters from the northern town of Albergaria-a-Velha. The National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC) noted more than 70 events due to bad weather, mainly from Braga , Coimbra and Porto districts.

Severe earthquake with MM 7 or greater occurred at 01:13 pm Saturday afternoon at 15 km depth, according to GeoNet , which monitors seismic activity in New Zealand. The epicenter was located 15 km east of Christchurch.

Fiji issues flood warnings as Cyclone Winston intensifies

Fiji Meteorological Service issued at 07:00 UTC Thursday 11 February 2016 Fiji Meteorological Service has issued flood warning for all low lying areas along Rakiraki river including Rakiraki town. In a special weather bulletin issued at 09:30 pm Thursday, Met Service said that a Category 1 Tropical Cyclone Winston was located about 730 km West-SouthWest of Rotuma and 650 km West-NorthWest of Nadi. The system is expected to bring heavy rainfall in the region.

Minor tremor felt in Kathmandu, Nepal; Epicenter in Sindhupalchowk

Update 10:25 pm According to Nepal Seismological Center, the epicenter was located in Sindhupalchowk with magnitude 4.6. It is an aftershock of April 25 Gorkha earthquake . The epicenter was located near Syaule Bazar at a shallow depth of 10 km. "I was watching a program in my laptop when tremor was felt. It was short and quick, enough me to get ready to go out the house. Then, it stopped," Bivek Bhattarai, a teacher from Baneshwor reported. No preliminary damage or injuries have been reported. Five days ago, a strong aftershock of magnitude 5.5 rattled the same area . More than 60 people were injured.

Flooding in Indonesia's Aceh Province evacuates thousands

Flooding in Aceh Province of Indonesia has caused evacuation of 7,597 people in five districts. Evacuated people have been currently living in meunasah (small mosques) and higher areas in villages, Tempo reported quoting Munawar, secretary of North Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).

Flood hits Mauritius today; torrential rain warning issued

A torrential rain warning is in effect in Mauritius as widespread flooding have been reported in Island. According to Mauritius Met Service, Pointe aux canonniers saw the highest rainfall of 86 mm between 07:00 to 09:00 am this morning. Heavy downpours have also been reported in Nouvelle Decouverte, Mon Loisir Rouillard, Queen Victiria, Domaine les Pailles, Champs de Mars, Bagatelle dam, Vacoas and Beau Bassin.

Meteorite strike in Vellore, India kills 1; three injured

Meteorite piece found in Vellore, Tamilnadu (@jsamdaniel) An Indian man has been killed by Meteorite in Vellore leaving a four-feet deep crater inside the Bharathidasan Engineering College campus. The meteorite hit the Indian man at 12:30 p.m. local time (2 a.m. E.T.) Saturday, when the man was standing on the grass near the college's cafeteria located in Nattrampalli, Vellore District of Tamil Nadu. Meteorite also injured two gardeners and a student. A dark blue stone resembling a diamond was spotted at the scene. According to NDTV , Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa said a college bus driver was killed by the meteorite and Rs. 1 lakh has been awarded in compensation to his family. However, the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has yet to confirm whether the mysterious object is indeed a meteorite. If scientists confirm the explosion was due to a meteorite, it would be the first recorded human fatality due to a falling space rock

Avalanche at Austrian resort in Alps kills 5 Czechs

An avalanche at an Austrian resort in the Alps has claimed lives of  five skiers from the Czech Republic. The avalanche in the Tyrol region buried 17 people injuring atleast two skiers. Ten people were rescued unhurt, the Associated Press reported quoting police spokesman Helmut Schuetz.

[Rumor] Tsunami predicted after recent tremor in Durban, South Africa!

A rumor has spread in Durban City in KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa about the recent threat of Tsunami in the area.  The rumor came into surface after a tremor was felt in Durban and surrounding areas on February 6, 2016 . However, no earthquakes has been recorded by Seismological Center (not even by locals).

Yellowstone Volcano 2016: Atleast 70 earthquakes recorded

Atleast 70 earthquakes were recorded in the Yellowstone National Park (YNP) region in January, United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported in its monthly update quoting Yellowstone Volcano Observatory . Two earthquake swarms were recorded in January 2016. A small swarm of 16 earthquakes occurred January 30 - 31 (MST) 5 miles south southwest of Lake, WY. Another smaller swarm of 10 earthquakes occurred January 25 - 27.

Magnitude 5.5 strong tremor rattles Nepal; One killed in Bihar, India

Update February 6, 2016; 11:50 am According to Nepal Police, atleast 66 people got injured by yesterday's earthquake. People have been admitted in hospitals with limb fractures and head injuries, while others had deep cuts. However, most of them have returned home after treatment. According to medias, atleast six people injured in Lalitpur and five in Bhaktapur other than Kathmandu district. Similarly, several people got injured in Bihar region of India as well. One person died due to heart attack in Muzaffarpur.

Siachen Glacier avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir buries 10

Aleast 10 soldiers have been missing after an avalanche struck the Siachen Glacier in Jammu and Kashmir, India. The avalanche occurred near the de facto border with Pakistan. "Soldiers from the Madras Regiment were buried under the snow deluge triggered on the northern side of the glacier early Wednesday morning," Hindustan Times reported quoting Army spokesperson NN Joshi.
