Flooding, landslides in Kaski and Myagdi districts of Nepal kill 33

Photo Courtesy: ekantipur.com Heavy flooding and landslides in Kaski and Myagdi districts of Nepal have claimed lives of at least 33 people on Thursday. At least 26 persons died in the Kaski district. Fatalities are from Lumle,Bhadaure Tamagi and Dhikurpokhari village. Likewise, total seven people died in Mudi and Muna villages in Myagdi district.

[ALERT] Glacial lake could burst following severe weather in Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral, Pakistan

A severe weather system in Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral could lead to Glacial Lake Outbrust Flood (GLOF) in Pakistan, Government said. Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an advisory on 24 July 2015 predicting Glacial Lake Outbrust Flood (GLOF), particularly in PMD's pilot GLOF sites Bagrot, Bindogol and Golain valleys. PMD has predicted the severe weather system likely to persist during next 4-5 days in Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral.

At least three earthquakes rattle Pakistan's Islamabad

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake has struck very close to Pakistan's capital of Islamabad early on Saturday morning, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says. The tremor struck at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres, according to PMD, with the epicentre located 23 kilometres to the northeast of Islamabad. It was followed by two weak tremors at 02:30 am local time of magnitude 2.5 and 2.9 at 03:01 am.

Light tremor rattles Dolakha as aftershock counts 355 after deadly earthquake

A light tremor shook Dolakha on 25 July 2015 as aftershocks continued to hit Nepal nearly three months after the deadly earthquake . According to Nepal Seismological Center, magnitude 4.3 aftershock rattled Dolakha at 00:05 am midnight. The epicenter was located near Mali below Gaurishankar Conservation area.

The alert level for Grenada's underwater volcano Kick’em Jenny has been raised from yellow to orange, the Seismic Research Center of the University of the West Indies mentioned. Global natural disaster insurance losses fell 47% in first half of 2015

Global natural disaster insurance losses during the first half of 2015 hit USD15 billion, down 47 percent during the first half of the year, according to Aon’s Global Catastrophe Recap: First Half of 2015 report. The catastrophes losses during the first half of 2015, from both an economic and insured loss perspective, were each below the 10-year (2005-2014) average. Preliminary data determined that economic losses were USD46 billion, down 58 percent from the 10-year average of USD107 billion, and insured losses were USD15 billion, down 47 percent from the 10-year average of USD28 billion.

Flood emergency declared as 3 killed in Chitral, Pakistan — Food shortage looms

At least three people have died in flash flood in Chitral, Pakistan prompting the authority to declare flood emergency in the area. Around 2, 85,000 people have been displaced due to storms and flooding, Geo TV reported. Deputy Commissioner Aminul Haq has declared a flood emergency and has appealed to the federal and provincial government as well as NGO’s seeking their cooperation.

Lightning strikes in Makwanpur district of Nepal has claimed lives of atleast two people, Nepal Police said. A lightning strike hit LalBahadur Moktan, 71 years old man, in Bhaarta VDC-6 Dekhari on Friday. Moktan died on the spot.

Tropical storm Nangka kills 2, injures 38 in Japan — 550,000 told to flee

Weather Warnings/Advisories issued by Japan Meteorological Agency at 19:51 JST A powerful tropical storm Nangka has claimed lives of at least two people and injured 38 in Japan. Evacuation orders and recommendations issued to some 555,000 people, The Japan Times reported. A 71-year-old  man was found dead on Thursday in Awaji island, Hyogo Prefecture. Another 85-year-old man was also found dead Thursday night in Shiso, in Hyogo Prefecture. Tropical storm Nangka made landfall near Cape Muroto on Shikoku island late Thursday with packing gusts up to 126 kilometers per hour. According to The Weather Channel , Nangka was the equivalent of a Category 1 tropical cyclone on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale at landfall.

Emergency Operations Center activated as tornado damage reported in Western Illinois

Governor Bruce Rauner has activated the State Emergency Operations Center to ensure to act quickly if any local responders need our assistance. "Illinois State Police is already at the scene and we have staff from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency enroute to the area to support local response efforts,” he said in a news release.

Emergency Cabinet meeting called after severe flooding hits Guyana

Heavy rainfall has triggered severe flooding in Guyana, a country on South America’s North Atlantic coast. President David Granger has called an emergency Cabinet meeting to discuss measures to drain the capital and other areas, AP reported. Meteorological Organization has recorded more than 10 inches of rainfall in Georgetown in less than 24 hours.

Agricultural disaster declared in Parkland County, Canada as rainfall hits lowest in 50 years

Parkland County council has declared a state of agricultural disaster during the July 14th Parkland County Council meeting. “These extreme drought conditions are devastating crops across Parkland County,” Mayor Rod Shaigec said in a news release Tuesday. “Council wants to make it clear to our agricultural community that we understand, and will provide all means of support possible. By declaring a state of agricultural disaster, we hope to call attention to this extremely important issue.”

Six inches of rain fell on Johnson County on Monday leading flash flooding in the area. According to Kentucky , emergency workers estimated that 500 Johnson County homes have been damaged by the flood and as many as 150 have been destroyed.

River flooding in Nawalparasi kills 1: Nepal Police

A 45 years old man, Tol Bahadur B.K., died after being washed away by flooded river in Nawalparasi district of Nepal. Bhumahi river in Ramnagar-2 washed away B.k. whose body was later found by Nepal Police. He died in the way to hospital in Parasi, Nepal Police confirmed.

Super typhoon Chan-Hom prompts HIGHEST ALERT in China - More than 1 million evacuated

Source: China Meteorological Administration Super typhoon Chan-Hom made landfall on Saturday afternoon in east China's Zhejiang province, causing evacuation of more than 1 million people. On Friday morning, China's Meteorological Center had raised "red warning of typhoon" for Zhejiang and Fujian province. At 9:00 a.m. on July 10, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) had also elevated emergency response to level I, the highest level  to address super typhoon Chan-Hom.

The researchers have predicted an earthquake of magnitude 8 or greater in the region, The Hindu reported. Italy heat wave kills 9 elderly people— Health Ministry activates heat wave hotline

At least nine elderly people have died of heat wave in Italy in last four days, Italian media reports. The heatwave caused the deaths of five elderly people, two cyclists and three beachgoers,  in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. Current activity at Yellowstone Volcano shows 82 earthquakes

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations, responsible for the operation and analysis of the Yellowstone Seismic Network has shown total 82 registered earthquakes in the Yellowstone National Park region in June 2015. The largest event was a small earthquake of magnitude 2.6 on June 21, at 04:40 PM MDT, located about 13 miles north northeast of Old Faithful, WY.

Germany heat wave sets record as 104.3 degrees hits Kitzingen

A heat wave set a record in Germany as 104.54 Fahrenheit was measured in Kitzingen, northern Bavaria, on Sunday afternoon. "It is the highest level in Germany since measurements began in 1881," Associated Press reported. Weather service spokesman Uwe Kirsche said AP that the record would be official only after technicians manually check the station.

Thunderstorm in Bachok, Malaysia damages more than 30 houses

More than 30 houses have been damaged by the thunderstorm in Kampung Kubang Golok, Malaysian National News Agency Bernama reported. Heavy storm blew away roofs of the houses Saturday evening, forcing the occupants to spent the night at relatives or neighbours' houses.

Flash flooding killed a woman and her elder son and injured her husband and their younger son, Phayul quoted Dhamchoe Palsang, a Tibetan living who told the Tibet Times . British Columbia wildfire prompts emergency in two communities

Dozens of wildfires burning across British Columbia have forced two communities to declare states of emergency. A state of emergency was issued Saturday morning after a 16-hectare fire caused the evacuation of about 100 residences in Port Hardy. The Squamish Lillooet Regional District also issued a state of emergency due to a 500-hectare fire northwest of Pemberton, Vancouver 24 hrs reported.

Darjeeling landslides kill 30 in recent Indian natural disasters

Landslides in West Bengal's Darjeeling district of India have claimed lives of atleast 30 people on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall triggered landslides at Tingling Tea Garden under Mirik block of Kurseong sub-division claiming lives of 20 people. At least seven died in Kalimpong sub-division, The Hindustan Times reported.

Three light aftershocks rattled Nepal on Wednesday, taking the total number of aftershocks of magnitude 4 or greater in the country to 338 after the major April 25 earthquake which killed nearly 9,000 people. First aftershock of magnitude 4.0 earthquake was recorded in Sindhupalchowk at 03:33 am Wednesday morning. The epicenter was located near Batase.
