Nepal Earthquake Prediction: USGS expects strong aftershocks possible in next 30 days

The United States Geological Survey (USGS), which monitors earthquakes across the world, estimated it is most likely that 0 to 5 earthquakes from magnitude 5 to 6 will occur and that the chance of at least one such aftershock is about 62%. USGS expects the event to occur within the month of May 27 to June 26, 2015.

Heat wave India 2015: More than 1,400 killed

Freak tornado rips through Ciudad Acuna, Mexico killing 13

Landslide in Suri VDC-2 of Dolakha district of Nepal has claimed life of an elderly man. April 25 earthquake has weakened the land structure in the area. Chandra Bahadur Gurung (72) of Suri VDC was grazing cattle outside the village when the landslide hit him.

Disaster Recovery Center in Franklin County to close on May 23

A disaster recovery center in Franklin County will close Saturday, May 23, at 6 p.m. (EDT).  The disaster recovery center is operated by the commonwealth of Kentucky and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. USGS expects magnitude 5 to 6 aftershock in Nepal this week

There is 40% chance of at least one magnitude 5 to 6 aftershock within the week of May 20 to May 26, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) mentioned in the Aftershock Advisory updated on May 20, 2015. People are urged to remain aware of the possibility of aftershocks in the coming weeks and months, especially when working in or around vulnerable structures or in landslide-prone areas.

Colombia Landslide News: At least 78 dead

At least 78 people have been killed when heavy rains caused the river Liboriana to burst is banks, triggering the landslide in Colombia. Landslide has damaged houses of more than 500 people, Reuters has written quoting the national disaster unit. About 1,000 people have been evacuated to nearby shelters.

Reunion active volcano Piton de la Fournaise shows new eruption

A new volcanic eruption has been observed at Piton de la Fournaise volcano in Reunion Island on Sunday at 13:45 pm. Camera captures earthquake triggered landslide in Dhunche, Nepal

The latest earthquake in Nepal on May 12 has triggered a landslide in Dhunche in Rasuwa district of Nepal. Video footage of the landslide was captured by James Shaw for the Canadian Red Cross. The Canadian Red Cross has setup a field hospital in the area.

At least three aftershocks rattles Nepal Thursday morning

At least three aftershocks have been recorded Thursday morning till 07:00 am, The Nepal Seismological Center reported. Magnitude 4.3 earthquake was recorded at 00:16 am midnight with epicenter in Dolakha. Another 4.1 was recorded at 03:13 am in the same location. At 03:23 am, a moderate earthquake with magnitude 5.0 hit Dolakha again.

Fresh Dolakha, Nepal earthquake kills 17 in India

A second powerful earthquake in less than three weeks in Nepal on Tuesday has claimed lives of at least 79 people, including 17 in neighbouring India and one in Chinese Tibet. Seventeen people have been killed in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh region of India. According to Nepal Seismological Center, magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Dolakha/Sindhupalchowk border region at 12:50 pm local time . It was followed by magnitude 6.2 at 13:21 with epicenter in Dolakha. However, U.S. Geological Survey reported magnitude 7.3 earthquake with epicenter near Namche Bazar, the gateway to Mount Everest.

National Seismological Centre expects more aftershocks today, please stay outside

The National Seismological Centre, Department of Mines and Geology, has urged people not to hurry back to homes and better to stay in safe places for at least two days. The National Seismological Centre stated that Tuesday's tremor measuring 6.8 on Richter scale was an aftershock of the 7.6 Richter scale earthquake that struck Gorkha on April 25, 2015 . The epicentre of today’s earthquake falls within rupture area of the April 25 main shock.

Major earthquakes hit Dolakha/Sindhupalchowk border region today

Update 13:20 UTC At least 56 people have died in different parts of Nepal. Highest fatalities have been reported from Dolakha. At least 33 people have been reported died in Dolakha alone as of 07:00 pm. In Sindhupalchowk, at least nine people died. Similarly, three died in Ramechhap, two in Sindhuli. At least five people died in Kathmandu valley. One each died in Dhanusha, Rautahat, Sarlahi and Gorkha. According to Home Ministry, at least 1,100 people injured in today's quake. Nepal Seismological has reported at least nine major earthquakes today.

Tornado causes damage in Taranaki town, New Zealand

A tornado has caused damage in Taranaki town, near New Plymouth, ripping off a roof and uprooting trees. A petrol station in a Taranaki town was damaged by the tornado, Radio New Zealand mentioned. The storm set off sirens and car alarms, New Zealand news and information website, Stuff has written quoting the local resident.

At least five people died after tornadoes battered several small communities in Texas and Arkansas. More than two dozen tornadoes ripped through parts of Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Texas on Sunday, USA Today has written quoting National Weather Service meteorologist, Greg Carbin as saying.

Tornado in Delmont, South Dakota injures 9 – Residents asked to evacuate

Tornado in Delmont, South Dakota has injured at least nine people and damaged dozens of buildings. Residents of Delmont are being asked to leave the town for the safety reason. The tornado struck the town around 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Tornado damaged about 20 buildings, including Zion Lutheran Church. According to Star Tribune , Children who were in school took shelter in the basement when the tornado hit.

Tornado causes extensive damage in German town of Buetzow

At least two aftershocks with magnitude greater than 4 have been recorded in Nepal on Tuesday. Light earthquake with magnitude 4.0 was recorded at 06:39 am with epicenter in the border of Dhading and Nuwakot. At least eight aftershocks have been recorded in Nepal on Monday, National Seismological center reported. Three earthquakes had epicenter in Nuwakot and others in Dolakha, Rasuwa, Gorkha and Sindhupalchowk. The highest magnitude was of 4.7 with epicenter in Dolakha. At least five tremors were well felt in and around capital Kathmandu.

Lightning kills 12 in Bangladesh

Lightning in seven different districts of Bangladesh has claimed lives of at least 12 people. Lightning hit Sunamganj, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Gaibandha, Bagerhat, Dinajpur and Mymensingh districts of Bangladesh. Lighting in Dirai, Tahirpur and Dharampasha upazilas of Sunamganj district killed four and injured three others, The Daily Star reported. At least two died in Dirai upazila.

Three aftershocks recorded in Gorkha, Dhading today

At least three aftershocks have been recorded in Gorkha and Dhading region of Nepal today, National Seismological Center mentioned. The first earthquake of magnitude 4.1 hit Gorkha at 00:02 UTC (05:47 am local time). Two hours later, magnitude 4.1 earthquake rattled Dhading. The third earthquake with magnitude 4.5 hit Dhading again at 05:01 UTC.
